We are young Germans with African roots — born in Germany, yet often with the feeling of not fully belonging. In society, we are “German, but different German.” At home, we grow up with our parents’ culture, yet without a complete connection to a German identity. The search for belonging accompanies many of us — but why? Why do we sometimes feel different even though we grew up here?
AfroGermany emerged from exactly this feeling. Our name connects “Afro” and “Germany” — and that’s exactly what we do: we create a platform for the young Afro-German generation who want to find their identity in both worlds.
Germany is our home and we are part of this society. Our goal is to show young Afro-Germans that they are not alone. We are committed to ensuring that they feel seen, heard and valued in Germany — and that they never forget they are not alone.
Through sports, music and culture, we want to create spaces where we can show our strengths, build networks and strengthen our community.
We also want to create a place for non‑Afro‑Germans as well as for older and younger generations. A place where they can (re)get to know us and where we can show that living together is possible. A place where we can build bridges between countless cultures — bridges that are necessary and important not only for our generation, but also for future ones, now more than ever.
AfroGermany stands for empowerment, representation, coming together and community. We are here to build bridges — between cultures, generations and perspectives. Because Germany is diverse, and we are an important part of it.
’Cause here we’re all at Home.
